Everyone made it to breakfast today despite some rough starts from Jeremy's cold that has been passed along, although Jeremy is feeling much better! He is now known as the carrier monkey. After breakfast we left for the church in Pacoche around 8:15 on the back of Paul's truck and arrived to see all the kids running about happily. Church was a really great experience for those who had been there before, and for the newbies. One particularly interesting thing was a guest guitarist with his son on the keyboard, compared our usual A Capella services. Even though most of us didn't know the words that we were singing, we could still feel God in the voices of the group and the children, "Tu Estas Aqui" (You are here). The service also had a guest speaker, a missionary from Mexico with his wife and child. He spoke on 2 Kings 4:1-9 about how we are like oil, serving other peoples needs (As explained by Lili after the sermon to those who couldn't understand).
After the service we headed over San Lorenzo to go to the beach, singing a familiar chant "Vamos a la playa, a comer papaya". This means, "We're going to the beach to eat papaya", a fun song that the kids like to sing. At the beach we swam in the waves, but only for a short time, while our lunch was being prepared at a nearby restaurant. We all had a fun time at the restaurant hanging out with the kids before heading out to hit the waves again. When we returned the waves were much larger than before, but that didn't slow the kids! What it meant was that we had to be more watchful since many couldn't swim. One favourite game of one particular child, Jacqueline, was hold on to David and Joshua's hand and let the waves crash into her. She seemed never to tire while David and Josh had to switch out with Christian and Jeremy for a break. Since many got tired of the ocean, they decided to instead bury Jeremy, Jorgé, Alicia! And then adorning with leaves and feathers.
After making a final five minute call, the kids headed back to Montanita Verde while most of us walked along the beach home. The weather has been gorgeous, it was sunny all day yesterday! Today was overcast but that didn't stop it from giving us some burns. When we returned to La Cueva, we had a group meeting to make plans to reach out to the kids in the community of San Lorenzo, and schedule things so that we would have time to rest but be able to get many things done.
That's about all for today, other then having some chicken noodle soup to settle some upset stomachs!
All The Best,
